In recognition of National EMS Week, officials and employees from Jessamine County EMS gathered at Saint Joseph-Jessamine RJ Corman Ambulatory Care Center Wednesday afternoon for a second annual cookout sponsored by the center.
Dan Andrews, ED unit manager, said the event was an effortless way to acknowledge the county’s first responders and highlight the great work they do for the community.
“They’re the first people who arrive at the scene, and they’re available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year,” Andrews said. “(This) is just an easy way for us to express our appreciation.”
In turn, many responders echoed their gratefulness toward the community, such as Lieutenant firefighter Marty Kazsuk, who said his job is rewarding in more ways than one.
“It feels like you’re needed and wanted by the citizens you help, you’re always welcomed and appreciated,” Kazsuk said. “You have a purpose.”
“I think you find it self-gratifying, (knowing) you’ve done something for someone,” said Ollie Burge, a major with the EMS.
Paramedic Jacob Diaz agreed, saying, “When people call, their levels of expectation are high, and if you can meet and exceed those expectations, that’s rewarding.” READ MORE...
